Katie Holmes' acting career seems to have hit a rough patch. Just weeks after her eight-part miniseries The Kennedys was dropped from The History Channel, sources say the actress' latest film met terrible reviews at the Sundance Film Festival last weekend.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Son of No One left many industry insiders cold and many walked out of the crime drama before the closing credits. The film was so bad, a source said, that when one audience member tried to start a round of applause at the end, he couldn't get any takers to join in.
Though Holmes, 32, only had a small role in the film, which stars Al Pacino and Channing Tatum, one moviegoer said her scenes were particularly painful.
"When Katie showed up on screen, there was a collective groan," the source said. "She plays the wife of a Queens' cop (Tatum), and she was completely miscast. They have her cursing a lot. And when she swore, there were chuckles."
The source continued: "She was wrong for it. Al Pacino's acting in the movie was intentionally over the top, and he did it with a wink. Most of the cast seemed in on the joke -- except for Katie. She was acting like she was in a dramatic Sundance indie, when it's really just a typical cop movie."
