While they've never spoken publicly about dating one another, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez proudly had their relationship on display when they hit up the famous Vanity Fair Oscar party right after the 83rd Academy Awards telecast wrapped.
The pair didn't do press on the red carpet, but they looked relaxed as they posed together for pictures. Bieber's arm was around Gomez's waist as they smiled for photos. She was wearing a red Grecian-style gown. Bieber was in an all-black tuxedo with a red pocket square, matching his date for the night. They took photos as a pair, but also individually. Inside the party, Bieber and Gomez posed for pictures with fellow teen star Hailee Steinfeld, held hands and looked at each other's phones while they texted inside the fete.
The glamorous party was attended by some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Gwyneth Paltrow, besties Taylor Swift and Emma Stone, couples like Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, as well as Oscar winner Natalie Portman and her beau, Benjamin Millepied. Among the other A-listers there were Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhaal, 50 Cent, Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Williams and Jennifer Hudson, to name a few.
"Good luck to my friend Hailee Steinfeld tonight on the #oscars. young people going for theirs! also want Christian Bale to win. #TheFighter," Bieber tweeted early on Sunday, before adding this message about his fame: "im never gonna change ... i will always remember ... i will always be that kid from Stratford ... I will always be grateful."
For her part, Gomez simply tweeted, "Vanity Fair fun!" She included a photo of herself with Bieber, Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, and his date.

Lady Gaga Confirms There Are Two 'Born This Way' Videos
Proceeds from 'stripped-down' clip and song will go to 'anti-bully charity,' she tells Gayle King.

Lady Gaga sat down with Oprah Winfrey's bestie, Gayle King, to discuss her forthcoming Nick Knight-directed videos for her chart-topping single "Born This Way," from her May album of the same name.
"I do have some exciting news about the new single. I've been so excited about [the fans'] reaction and seeing the fans be so excited during the show every time we play 'Born This Way,' it's been really amazing," she told King. "I've made two music videos for the song."
Gaga then went on to confirm that portions of the proceeds from the sale of the "stripped-down" version of the song, which will get its own video (further details about that clip were not known at press time), will go to charity. "So there's one that's coming out on Monday," she explained. "But then I'm actually putting together another video, which is a more stripped-down version of the song that will be released on iTunes and also released as an audio file. A portion of the money raised selling the song is actually going to go towards an anti-bully charity."
Mum has been the word on what the videos will actually be like. Though Gaga, in a recent radio interview, noted that the visual is about "the birth of a new race within the race of humanity. The birth of a new race that doesn't bear any prejudices. I think the most important thing is that I continue to grow, and I knew when I put [out] 'BTW' it would be a transitional moment, because it doesn't sound like [my previous singles]."

'Hall Pass': The Reviews Are In!
The critics weigh in on whether Farrelly brothers' latest is worth getting out of class.
By Eric Ditzian
Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in "Hall Pass"
Photo: New Line Cinema
Last weekend, Liam Neeson's "Unknown" pulled off a surprise box-office win after "I Am Number Four" failed to attract even a fraction of its "Twilight"-obsessed target audience. This weekend, though, we can be relatively certain which film will land in the top spot. For the first time since 2000's "Me, Myself & Irene," Bobby and Peter Farrelly should be able to nab the weekend's #1 slot with their new comedy, "Hall Pass."
Like "Unknown," the film has received mixed reviews, but in these early, often barren months at the multiplex, that hardly matters. Check out what the critics are saying about "Hall Pass."
The Story
"Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are a pair of husbands whose marriages are, at this point, held together by their urges to check out other women. Their wives, Maggie (Jenna Fischer) and Grace (Christina Applegate), are as bored with their husbands' straying eyes as their husbands are with marriage. Rick and Fred are released back into the wild by their wives, Lucy and Ethel — I mean, Maggie and Grace — and given a week free of marriage responsibility. The men are allowed seven days to pursue the girls of their dreams. It's charming that 'Pass' realizes how flimsy it is, conceptually; the women causing the domestic tedium are played by actresses who, when they were dewier, played the girls that caused men to drive into trees — a throwaway joke itself. And the movie is self-aware enough to toy with the misogyny of its premise; Maggie and Grace suspect their men wouldn't know what to do with freedom." — Elvis Mitchell, Movieline
The Performances
" 'Hall Pass' presents these men as a new archetype: the frustrated middle-aged husband as randy adolescent virgin. Wilson, geeked out in super-square hair, knows how to use his gentleness to turn himself into a figure of soft desperation. And 'Saturday Night Live' 's Sudeikis, in his first major movie role, has an agreeably dorky, bootlicking officiousness. (Fred thinks that he's scored a victory if he figures out how to look at a woman's behind without his wife seeing him.) They are so domesticated, the joke is they don't even know their pent-up sexual frustration is driving them nuts." — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
The Laughs and the Look
"The slapstick and action comedy interludes are haphazardly executed at best, and matters aren't helped by the film's incredibly ugly look; for whatever reason, the productions from New Line Cinema since its absorption by Warner Bros. appear poorly lighted, processed and/or printed, resulting in blotchy, bleachy results that do no favors to the actors." — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter
The Dissenters
"Like many comedies, 'Hall Pass' is more a succession of gags and skits than an actual movie; when it reaches for something more than low-rent laughs, it really slips. The attempted commentary on love, fidelity and appreciation are off-putting, a side plot about a violent psycho simply bizarre. Wilson doesn't seem to be trying, and Fischer and Applegate, typically game for anything, are given nothing worthwhile to do. What laughs there are come mostly courtesy of Sudeikis and, of all people, Richard Jenkins in a surprising role. Also, the description 'gross-out comedy' has rarely been more apt. Except maybe for the comedy part." — Bill Goodykoontz, The Arizona Republic
How Does It Compare to Past Farrelly Flicks?
"Those cheerful shlockmeisters Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who co-wrote and directed the film, are more laid-back here than they were in 'There's Something About Mary,' 'Kingpin' or 'Dumb and Dumber.' They make you laugh at some pretty revolting things, and the ratio of sexual/scatological giggles to groaners is high. But the brothers dialed back the lewd lunatic energy that is their signature. The film's longest-running gag is that the men, sprung from the straitjacket of monogamy, leer at almost every woman they get near, but are too square and meek to score." — Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray's Trial To Be Televised
Judge rules that camera will be allowed in the courtroom for manslaughter case.

For what promises to be one of the most bizarre and riveting legal proceedings in years, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Monday that a television camera will be allowed in the courtroom when Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial for involuntary manslaughter.
Reuters reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, approved the presence of a camera in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray as long as it does not interfere with the proceedings in the closely watched case.
The judge asked for the "absolute least-intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom, but blocked cameras from documenting jury selection.
Pastor also announced that he would bump up the opening date of the trail by four days to March 24, at which point jury selection will begin. Murray, who faces up to four years in prison if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the trial is expected to last around six weeks.
Cardiologist Murray was hired to be Jackson's personal physician in the run-up to the King of Pop's planned 50-date comeback series of shows at London's O2 arena in the summer of 2009. The doctor told police that he provided Jackson, 50, with sedatives and the surgical anesthetic propofol in order to combat the singer's chronic insomnia. He said he did so on the morning of June 25, 2009, when Jackson died of what a coroner deemed acute propofol poisoning.
TMZ reported on Tuesday (February 8) that Murray's lawyers plan to argue that Jackson was already in weak health before he died and that it's unfair to blame propofol for his passing. Unnamed sources close to the case told the gossip site that at the time of his death, Jackson's body was already failing him in part because concert promoter AEG Live had "driven [him] over the edge" with a rigorous rehearsal schedule for the shows.
Murray's lawyers reportedly plan to call witnesses to say that Jackson was not showing up for rehearsals and when he did he showed "clear signs" of frail health. They also reportedly plan to argue that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of propofol to himself while Murray was out of the room.

Katy Perry Denies Feud With Britney Spears
Singer calls the media 'filth' for implying she was attacking Spears for using product placement in her 'Hold It Against Me' video.
By James Montgomery

Last week, when Katy Perry answered a question tweeted by her California Dreams tourmate Marina and the Diamonds about product placement in music videos, she never expected to touch off a media firestorm. And she's plenty mad that she did.
It all started with Perry's reply to Marina's query for "a consensus on product placement in videos." Perry wrote on Twitter, "Do it with style and grace ... Not so 'In [your] face like some. [You] have to get creative with it. Some artists don't care though, and you can tell."
Given that Perry's response occurred hours after the premiere of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" video (a version of which is loaded with promotional shots for products like Spears' own Radiance perfume, Make Up for Ever cosmetics and dating website PlentyofFish.com), most were quick to interpret it as a dig at Spears for selling out. And that made Perry very angry.
Early Wednesday morning (February 23), Perry took to Twitter once again to rip the tabloid media (or as she calls them, "filth") for their speculative and hurtful ways, claiming in a series of messages that they manipulated her words in an attempt to pit her against Spears, and, because of that, were basically responsible for the decline of civilization as we know it.
"Dear tabloid media a.k.a. FILTH: please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, [its] role in videos and the art of them being compliment[ary] or sticking out," Perry wrote. "Most, if not ALL, popsters welcome deals with products [to] offset costs of big-budget vids in these recessional music industry times. I'VE used them in MY vids before and am happy [to be] able [to] make a better vid because of [them].
"Once AGAIN, stop pitting artist against artist for [your] sensational satisfaction," she continued, "and stick to what [you're] best [at]: lying, gossiping, exaggerating and overall lending a hand [to] the deterioration of a generation."

What Should Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway Wear To The Oscars?
Fashion experts weigh in on some of the trends they expect to see at this year's Academy Awards show, which takes place this Sunday.

For Hollywood stars attending the Academy Awards, the days leading up to the big show this Sunday likely are filled with fittings, meetings with stylists and major decisions about what they will wear. With so many big names up for awards at this year's event, MTV News wanted to know what some of the Oscars fashion trends will be.
We caught up with fashion-industry maven and People's Revolution founder, Kelly Cutrone, and Faran Krentcil, digital director at Nylon magazine, and asked them to weigh in on what they believe will light up the red carpet at this year's ceremony. Krentcil predicts that the big trends will be color and American designers. Cutrone, who says that blue and lavender will be popular, also wants to see lots of American designers' creations on display.
Regarding first-time Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, the ladies had a very specific idea of what the teen should wear to the show. "She's not a trend yet, but she will be," Krentcil admitted. "Her Golden Globe and SAG Awards looks were incredible, and the girl is only 14! She's one to watch on the fashion front, for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if by next year, she's got a high-fashion campaign like Miu Miu."
Cutrone noted that the "True Grit" star should go for "short, super fun and nothing overpowering. She should be the pixie and we don't need to bury her in too much dress." She added, "I think that Michelle Williams needs to step it up. She needs to dress it up. She needs to hit it. I think she needs to go from pixie to sexy," noting that Williams should pass the pixie throne to Steinfeld.
Faran joked about the Oscars' two young co-hosts, "Anne Hathaway will wear Valentino. James Franco will wear Anne Hathaway."
Meanwhile, Cutrone had more specific advice for the female emcee for the night. "I think she should wear an American designer. I think she should keep it really elegant and have an Audrey Hepburn moment — a great, very clean moment," she said. "[She should wear] red, white or black; really simple. She needs to look really pulled together. She really should step it up."
As for Best Actress Oscar nominee and mom-to-be, Natalie Portman, Cutrone thinks that her look will be the most talked about for years to come. "She will have one of the most memorable maternity outfits ever," she predicted. "It will live on like a Princess Grace of Monaco sort of image."
Will it be a regal evening for "The King's Speech"? Can "The Social Network" dial up Oscar gold? Don't miss MTV News' "2011 Oscars Live" at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, when we'll be chatting with your favorite Hollywood stars live from the red carpet on MTVNews.com, and stick with us all Oscar night for winners, interviews, photos and more!

Decode My Dream: I Cheat In My Sleep
I have been in a relationship with my first serious boyfriend for a little over a year. Our relationship is great and I am very much in love. A couple of weeks ago, I started having dreams about flirting with other men, being tempted to hook up with them, and even cheating on my boyfriend. Sometimes it was about guys that I know, but mostly it was about strangers. It lasted for about four nights in a row, but I haven't had them since. I would never even think of cheating on my boyfriend, although I sometimes lose a bit of desire or sexual attraction towards him. I think he is the one, and even though that is absolutely great, I sometimes think about how I might never get to ''experience'' dating and being single. So what do those dreams mean?—The Sleeper-Cheater

With Which Special Lady Will Justin Bieber Celebrate His Birthday?
Justin Bieber's making big plans for his upcoming 17th birthday, and he's got his eye on one certain lady that he's hoping to spend his special day with -- his grandmother!
"Hopefully my grandparents will be out here and I'll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them," the singer, whose birthday is March 1, told Entertainment Tonight. "My grandma makes the best cheesecake – cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday."
The squeaky-clean teen says he's not planning any sort of birthday bash, mostly because he's only got a short window of time before he's back to work full-time.
"I only have, like, four days, so I'm just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] – so just going to mentally prepare and just relax," Bieber said.
As for his new haircut that's sent his fans into frenzy, the Biebs wants everyone to know it's really not that big of a deal.
"I just woke up and said, 'I don't want this anymore,' so I just cut it," he said of his decision to chop his shaggy locks. "You know, the fans really liked it, but they'll like me no matter what, because I think it's about the music."

NEWS: NYC "Abortion" Ad Causing A Storm Of Controversy Nationwide
So as I was making my way downtown in NYC 2 days ago, I came across this very billboard. I was literally sitting in traffic with my mouth open with shock.
A 3-story-tall-billboard strategically placed at the busy intersection of Watts and 6th Ave. in Soho is causing a sh*tstorm of controversy across the nation. And today it's hitting the fan. Check out the "right-to-life" extremist's newest antic to get attention via shock value...at black children's expense...when you read on...
The arguments against this ad even being allowed to be put up in New York state that this is purely irresponsible, regardless of the message's meaning. Children who view the ad cannot process complicated issues or underlying messages the way adults can, so this runs the very high risk of scaring and/or humiliating the child reading it.
Here's the run-down of the who and what and why people are so up in arms this week:
"The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb," reads the inflammatory ad sponsored by the Dallas-based pro-life group "Life Always."
The three-story billboard at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Watts Street features an elementary-school aged African-American girl looking out at viewers with a plaintive expression, wearing a bow in her hair and a sleeveless pink jumper dress. The ad directs passersby to the group's website, thatsabortion.com.
Life Always leader, Pastor Stephen Broden, who is African-American, said that his group intentionally released a billboard that would elicit a reaction.
"The black community is oblivious to what is going on with this practice," Broden, 58, said about abortion rates in the African-American community.
"This is far from hyperbole, these are facts and statistically back up that abortion is having an impact on the demography of African-Americans," he said.
According to New York City's latest Vital Statistics report with data from 2009, two out of five pregnancies in New York City end in an abortion, giving the city an overall abortion rate of 41 percent.
Among black women in New York City, the abortion rate is reportedly 59.8 percent, while the abortion rate for Hispanic women is 41.3 percent and the rate for white women is 20.4 percent. The rate for abortions among Asian women in New York is 22.7 percent.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn both criticized the ad, with de Blasio calling for it to come down.
"To refer to a woman's legal right to an abortion as a 'genocidal plot' is not only absurd, but it is offensive to women and to communities of color," Quinn wrote in a statement of Broden's claim that the high abortion rates among minority women amounted to genocide.
Mae Collazo, 38, who works across the street from the billboard, said she found the billboard incredibly offensive.
"I don't like it all, what is that supposed to mean?" said Collazo, who is African American, "It makes it sound like all we do is abort our children."
Collazo added that she didn't think the higher percentage of abortions registered for African American women in New York necessarily reflect what is actually going on in the community, and questioned the source of the statistics and whether abortions conducted at private clinics are included in the statistics.
But some passersby agreed with the ad.
Patti D'Agostini, 48, who works at the Door Youth Center on Broome Street, said she works with many teen mothers.
"I don't believe in abortion," D'Agostini said. "Kids shouldn't be having sex until they're 18 anyways."
Broden said his organization will remain in the city for another three weeks before kicking off similar ad campaigns in six other cities around the country.
Also, people believe it is unnecessarily targeting black women--making this an extremely racist and humiliating and disgusting "ad".
But, as usual, the folks behind the ad (the leader is a black pastor from Dallas named Stephen Broden of the Life Always organization) defend their actions saying they put the ad in a majority white neighborhood in order to get attention. And they say the ad is actually for the greater good of showing the bad side of abortions, especially for black women, so people will be less likely to get them.
I have my own views on this topic and this specific billboard itself, and the fact that essentially this "pastor" is saying he's willing to exploit and humiliate black women at the "bigger" price of publicity, but I digress. Living in the south and also doing my undergrad years in Texas made me privy to these very issues and types of people on almost a daily basis. So I'm shocked, but I shouldn't be.
But how do you feel about this o fab ones? And what measures, if any, should be taken now that this advertisement has permeated the nation.

Did Demi Lovato Reunite with Wilmer Valderrama Post-Rehab?
Demi Lovato is out of rehab and looking to get her life back on track -- which seems to include her relationship with actor Wilmer Valderrama.
The couple, who were reportedly dating before Lovato entered treatment for emotional issues in late October, have been seen together on numerous occasions recently. According to PerezHilton.com, Lovato, 18, and Valderrama, 31, took in a movie at the Sherman Oaks Galleria this past weekend and even shopped at Whole Foods together.
A rep for Lovato refused to comment on her client's love life, but insiders say that these two have been a couple for some time now. Lovato split from Joe Jonas in May 2010, and began dating the That 70's Show star shortly after.
Lovato quit the Camp Rock 2 tour with the Jonas Brothers in the fall, after an altercation with a backup dancer. The actress, who reportedly had a history of eating disorders, entered a facility to "seek medical treatment for emotional and physical issues," her rep said at the time. She was released in late January.
"For now, she is getting back to her regular routine and spending time with her family and close friends," a source close to the actress says.
But the question remains: Will getting back with her old boyfriend really help her move forward with her life?

Nicki Minaj: My Appeal Lies In Showing It's 'OK To Be Weird'
The Young Money MC talks to BlackBook about fame, Lady Gaga and ongoing response to MTV doc 'My Time Now.'
By James Dinh
Nicki Minaj is a platinum-selling rapper but she's still adapting so many aspects of fame. The Young Money MC says she's learning that she has to censor herself and that not all of her followers are fans.
"I have to watch my mouth sometimes," she tells BlackBook magazine in a new interview.
"All of those people who follow me on Twitter? They aren't my friends. Some of them are fans, but many of them are people who hate my guts and are just waiting for me to tweet something that they can put on their blogs. It's easy to see 2 million followers and think, 'Look at all these people who love me!' But not all of them love me. Whether I'm smiling or not, I know that people are always waiting for me to slip up."
Last November, MTV premiered Minaj's documentary, "My Time Now," and the 26-year-old raptress tells the magazine she was afraid she'd been "too real" and revealed "too much of the actual person behind Nicki Minaj" during filming.
"Someone once told me, 'People love the façade of pop stars. It's not good to be a real person,' so I lost sleep over it," the rapper says. "But then I met tons of people who said, 'I've became a fan of yours after watching that documentary.' I'm realizing now that I'm never really going to know the rules. I just have to play."
The chart-topping rapper also sees similarities between herself and another breakout artist: Lady Gaga. Nicki tells the magazine that the two are walking similar paths to fame with "the awkward, non-pretty thing."
"What we're saying — what I'm saying, anyway — is that it's OK to be weird. And maybe your weird is my normal. Who's to say? I think it's an attitude we both share," the "Moment 4 Life" MC says.

Britney Spears Teases Femme Fatale's 'I Wanna Go'

As fans get closer to the March 29 release of Britney Spears' latest album, Femme Fatale, more teasers of tracks off the Dr. Luke/Max Martin executive-produced album are hitting the Web.
On Tuesday (February 22), Spears tweeted a link to a 29-second clip of "I Wanna Go," calling Martin "amazing." The song kicks off with a thumping beat, as the melody plays lightly over it. Brit's staccato vocals — "I wanna go-o-o all the way-ay-ay" — enter as the teaser fades out.
The song was co-produced and written by Shellback, who recently worked with Spears on "If U Seek Amy" and "3." He also hooked up with Usher for "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," Robyn on "Time Machine" and Avril Lavigne for "What The Hell."
Thus far, all the tracks Spears has revealed in anticipation of the release of Femme Fatale have been club bangers. Last week, she released the dark, sleek video for her lead single, "Hold It Against Me," and days later, she teased her next single, "Inside Out."
"In my opinion, this is her strongest album ever," her manager, Larry Rudolph, told MTV News about the March 29 release. "It's somewhat of a departure from what she's done. It's more mature. It's more of a dance record."
Are you looking forward to the release of Femme Fatale? Tell us below!

The new issue of Rolling Stone magazine raised eyebrows for a number of reasons. Not only does it feature a cover image of teen dream Justin Bieber with his signature mop top teased up into spikes, but the accompanying interview has the controversy-shy 16-year-old "Never Say Never" singer weighing in on a number of contentious topics, including abortion.
When RollingStone.com posted excerpts from the cover story on Tuesday, it initially left out a key phrase that is included in the print edition of the mag that slightly misrepresented Bieber's feelings on sex, pregnancy and abortion.
In the article, the writer states that Bieber is "definitely" against abortion, quoting him as saying, "I really don't believe in abortion. ... I think [an embryo] is a human. It's like killing a baby." When the writer asks if that also refers to incidents of rape, Bieber replies, "Um ... well I think that's just really sad. ..."
By Wednesday, the site added this explanation: "Due to an editing error, this rollingstone.com news item originally included an incomplete quote from our Justin Bieber cover story. The actual quote, which appears in full in the March 3 print edition of Rolling Stone, reads: 'Um. Well, I think that's really sad [referring to abortion], but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.' For the record: Bieber was quoted correctly by writer Vanessa Grigoriadis in her feature."
The original version of the quote that appeared online did not contain the phrase "I don't know how that would be a reason."
Grigoriadis spoke to Popeater.com on Thursday about the backlash against Bieber's quotes about rape, which the story seemed to imply he thinks "happens for a reason."
"I think he meant that God has a plan," the writer told the site. "Even for the most die-hard Christian, it's hard to justify rape as part of God's plan, and harder to justify rape that leads to pregnancy and abortion. I think he was wrestling with that in his answer, which I found to be solid and logical. I think it is being widely misunderstood. He did not say that rape was part of God's plan."
Asked whether Bieber was mature for his age, Grigoriadis agreed with something Bieber's manager said about his famous client. "Scooter Braun was right when he said to me that Justin sometimes seems like a 16-year-old going on 14 and other times like a 16-year-old going on 32," she said, adding that she thought it was fair game to ask the singer about such topics as premarital sex, abortion and politics because of the cultural impact Bieber has had in his short time in the public eye.
"I think that anyone who has as much sway in popular culture as Justin should be asked all questions," she said. "I agree that he does not bring up these issues in his work at the moment, but it's possible that he will in the future, as he decides that he wants the public to know more about him."

Justin Bieber's Next Album To Capture Justin Timberlake's Magic
Songwriter Sean Garrett says former 'NSYNC star's success inspires Bieber's new project and also dishes on Beyoncé's album.

Justin Bieber may have declined the chance to join Justin Timberlake's label, but according to a songwriter in the know, the former 'NSYNC crooner is the inspiration for the teen sensation's upcoming album.
Songwriter Sean "The Pen "Garrett, who has been working with Bieber on the follow-up to the chart-ruling My World 2.0., spoke with Billboard about the direction for the teen superstar's forthcoming album, saying the project will feature more grown-up fare.
"What we're trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood," Garrett said of the project, which is also slated to feature production from hitmaker Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. "The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album -- I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That's the bar for the type of song, that level of 'Cry Me a River,' big records."
Garrett, who has crafted records for stars like Chris Brown and Bieber's mentor Usher, also said he's hard at work on Beyoncé's next project. However, the songwriter didn't divulge too much information, only revealing that he's "been working with her extremely hard ... she's my favorite."
While Garrett said the plan for his next outing is to angle Bieber toward a swiftly maturing audience, Bieber himself has refused to categorize his music, insisting to MTV News in December that he's just focused on creating quality records.
"Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear," Bieber explained of his hits. "I don't know, it's not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn't say I'm pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it's just good music,"

'I Am Number Four' Star Teresa Palmer Talks Aliens, Explosions
Palmer tells MTV News how she gave her alien character equal mix of sex appeal and swagger.

Yes, Hollywood actresses can rely on teams of stylists, makeup artists and lighting technicians to keep them looking glamorous onscreen. But even offscreen, these starlets always seem so put-together. How do they do it? MTV News set out to find some answers when we caught up with rising star Teresa Palmer, who has two films on the way, this week's alien adventure "I Am Number Four" and next month's "Take Me Home Tonight."
In "I Am Number Four," Palmer plays the very kick-ass, smoldering alien warrior Number Six. Palmer's character, along with Number Four (Alex Pettyfer), are two of nine extraordinarily gifted aliens sent to Earth from their dying planet, Lorien. Unfortunately the evil beings that destroyed Lorien, called Mogodorians, have come to Earth to hunt them. In the film, Palmer has a series of intense battle sequences and, one in particular involves her character walking away from a house she's just set on fire, as it explodes behind her.
We asked Palmer about the technicalities of filming that scene and, more important, how she managed to look so calm, cool and sexy while doing it.
"There was a real explosion," Palmer revealed. "How we did it was I walked out of a house, and had to do this sort of sexy swagger as I walked out," she recalled. "I did like a hair flip, had my aviator sunglasses on, and then there would be two guys running behind me with a big green screen running and putting it in. And then we'd call cut and we'd move away and then they'd blow up the house," she said. "Then they composited it together so it looked like I was walking away from the fire."
Movie magic at work! We also wondered whether the Aussie actress had channeled anyone or listened to any particular songs to pull off that swagger.
"Not really for that walk in particular. I mean, that was very difficult compared to how it looks onscreen," she admitted. "I had to do that about 12 times because I'm walking in these really high combat boots, and I'm walking on sand and I'm trying to make it look sexy and do the whole like head thing and sunglasses, and they kept falling down," she explained. "Then I would fall over, so it just wasn't fluid at all! I think that was the only usable take that they got, [the one] in the movie."
Palmer added that she did use music to get into Number Six's combat mood.
"In terms of getting into my character, I would listen to a lot of underground rap and hip-hop like Masta Ace, Mobb Deep. Very badass stuff," Palmer said with a smile.
Check out everything we've got on "I Am Number Four."

Nicki Minaj Rips Through L.A. Club Set During NBA All-Star Weekend
Rapper thrills crowd with abbreviated version of controversial 'Roman's Revenge.'

Hip-hop's Barbie took her multi-colored wigs to Hollywood last night just in time to kick off the 2011 NBA All-Star weekend.
Nicki Minaj, flanked by her sideman/homey SB, took the stage at club Exchange in downtown Los Angeles, just a few blocks from the Staples Center, where the All-Star festivities are taking place throughout the weekend.
Not long after entering the massive venue, which was filled with a sea of Barbie fans, the Queens native made a beeline for the DJ booth and swiftly grabbed the mic from DJ Biz Markie, following a set by fellow rapper Rick Ross. Ross had just finished tearing through his own hits including club anthems "B.M.F," "9 Piece," "Aston Martin Music" and "Hustlin'." But after Rozay, the Los Angeles audience got who they were waiting for.
"Where my New York people at?" Nicki asked her fans as she stepped to the stage. From there, Nicki went into her latest single, "Moment for Life," which features Young Money capo Drake. "I fly with the stars in the skies/ I am no longer trying to survive/ I believe that life is a prize/ But to live doesn't mean you're alive," Nicki rapped as the audience sang and bounced along.
But the best was yet to come.
After cutting her song short during the Drake verse, the "legendary Biz Markie," as Ross referred to the iconic MC, cued up Nicki's controversial record "Roman's Revenge" to the female MC's surprise, sending the crowd into a rage.
"I am not Jasmine, I am Aladdin/ So far ahead, these bums is laggin'/ See me in that new thing, bums is gaggin'/ I'm startin' to feel like a dungeon dragon/ Raah, raah, like a dungeon dragon," an amped Nicki rapped.
Midway through her first verse on "Roman," the MC stepped away from the stage and disappeared into the night for the final time.
There's been no word if Nicki's abrupt ending was planned or not, but regardless, fans went home happy, comfortable with every penny spent to catch a glimpse of rap's most-wanted girl.
For the remainder of the weekend, Nicki is slated to appear at a host of events including a grand finale at the same location on Sunday night featuring manager Diddy.

Justin Bieber Gets Billboard Boost After 'Never Say Never' Opening
While Now 37 takes #1 spot, Bieber's album sales jump 145 percent following his big-screen debut.

There will be a new title at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart next week, but the biggest news is the huge sales bump Justin Bieber experienced thanks to the opening of his "Never Say Never" movie. While the Now 37 compilation (with songs by Eminem, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Pink and Willow Smith) will snag the pole position thanks to sales of 151,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Bieber's 3-D big-screen debut gave a serious boost to his record sales.
My World 2.0 is up 145 percent over the previous week, jumping 14 spots to #3 on sales of 48,000, while My Worlds Acoustic leaps 37 spots to #10 as sales zoomed up by 240 percent to 35,000. Even the 16-year-old singer's 2009 debut EP, My World, benefited, moving 61 spots to #39 as sales were up 162 percent to 14,000.
Next week's charts will likely reflect the post-Grammy bump that traditionally follows the awards show, but even after going home empty-handed following a performance with Bob Dylan on the broadcast, England's Mumford & Sons continue their unlikely chart ride. They zoom nine spots to #2 with Sigh No More, which sold 49,000 copies as sales picked up by nearly 100 percent over the previous week.
The rest of the top 10: Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday (#4, 47,000), Pink, Greatest Hits ... So Far!!! (#5, 41,000), Bruno Mars, Doo-Wops & Hooligans (#6, 39,000), Eminem, Recovery (#7, 38,000), Rihanna, Loud (#8, 37,000) and Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party (#9, 35,000).
Maybe it was their Super Bowl halftime show, but after weeks of slipping down the charts, the Black Eyed Peas' The Beginning moves six places to #14 (31,000, up 61 percent) while their two-year-old The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) jumps 21 spots to #20 as sales picked up by 75 percent to 20,000.
It was all about Lady Gaga on the iTunes singles chart, as her queer anthem "Born This Way" went straight to #1. Gaga pushes Katy Perry's "Firework" down a spot, where it's followed by Pink's "F---in' Perfect," the Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)," Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" and Jay Sean's "Hit the Lights." Rounding out the list are Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" at #7, then Colbie Caillat's "I Do," Rihanna's "S&M" and Avril Lavigne's "What the Hell."
The Mumfords rule the iTunes albums chart, followed by Pink, Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes, his acoustic album, the Beatles' LOVE soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas show, Rihanna, Eminem, Grammy performers the Avett Brothers' I and Love and You, Bieber's My World 2.0 and the Pretty Reckless' Light Me Up.
Look for the Grammy bump next week, as well as the chart debut of Bieber's remix album and the new Bright Eyes effort, The People's Key.
